A home maintenance plan for the two of you
Answer about five minutes of easy questions about your home, whether you own or rent. HouseMouse suggests the upkeep worth doing, like the furnace filter and smoke alarms, and shows the year’s bills and renewals with what they cost over a year. Then it reminds whoever’s turn it is on WhatsApp.

How it starts
First, say whether you own or rent. Then a few details: when the home was built, how it’s heated, gutters, a sump pump, the water heater, pets. HouseMouse uses that to suggest jobs, from the furnace filter every couple of months to the smoke alarms twice a year. You pick which ones to keep.
Add the bills and renewals that come round every month or year. The Home Plan then shows what’s due when, and what it all costs per year and per month.
Reminders that reach the right person
- Each job can have one owner, be left to whoever gets to it, or go in turns.
- The reminder goes to the WhatsApp chat of whoever’s up, on the evening it’s due. If it isn’t done, one more comes the next morning.
- Bills and renewals get a reminder three days before, and another on the day.
- Reply “done” and HouseMouse marks it off.
Your home’s history
Tell HouseMouse when something is put in or serviced: “Joe serviced the furnace on Tuesday”, “we bought the dishwasher in 2023, five-year warranty”. It saves that with your home. Send an inspection report or a manual, and it picks out the appliances, the work done and anything that needs fixing.
Where it stops
- It reminds you. It doesn’t book the repair or call anyone.
- What you tell it is saved straight away, and you can undo it in one step.
- Moving a date or changing whose job it is waits for a yes.
Questions
- Does it work for renters?
- Yes. Renters get different questions, like when the lease ends and when rent is due, and the plan follows from those.
- What does “cost per year” mean?
- It adds up every regular bill and renewal you’ve entered for the whole year, and shows the monthly amount too. That way the big once-a-year ones don’t catch you out.
- Can it book a contractor?
- No. It keeps track and reminds you. Who you call, and when, is up to you.
