Who’s cooking tonight? Settled by lunch
HouseMouse texts you both on WhatsApp each morning to ask who’s cooking tonight. Reply “I’ve got dinner, tacos”, and you both know it’s handled. If nobody has answered by mid-afternoon, it asks once more.

Your turn for dinner tonight?
I’ve got dinner, tacos
Dinner’s claimed: tacos. Want a shopping list for it?
Dinner · claimedHow it works
- The question arrives around 9am, in your own chat with HouseMouse. It never comes during your quiet hours.
- Whoever has cooked less lately gets “Your turn for dinner tonight?”. The other person is asked if dinner’s sorted.
- Answer in your own words: “I’ve got dinner, tacos”, “we’re eating out”, “leftovers tonight”. Changed your mind? “Scrap that” undoes it.
- If tonight is still open by mid-afternoon, it asks once more. Once someone has it, the texts stop.
- You can claim other nights too, up to a month ahead.
On the web page
Today shows tonight’s dinner, and the dinners page shows the week ahead. Claim a night, add the meal, or mark it as eating out, leftovers or skipped. Your partner sees the change right away.
From dinner to the list
Once a night is claimed, HouseMouse can write a shopping list for the meal. Nothing goes on your shared grocery list until one of you says yes.
Where it stops
- It asks who’s cooking. What you eat is still up to you.
- It won’t sign your partner up to cook. If you ask it to hand them dinner, they can say yes or no.
- It doesn’t order food or groceries.
Questions
- Does it pick our meals?
- No. It asks who’s cooking and remembers what you decide. If you like, it can draft a shopping list for the meal you picked.
- What if neither of us is cooking?
- Say “we’re eating out”, “leftovers” or “skip tonight”. It won’t ask again that day.
- Can I hand dinner to my partner?
- You can ask HouseMouse to. Your partner gets the request, and dinner is only theirs once they say yes.
