HouseMouse vs Splitwise for couples
Splitwise is an app for splitting costs with anyone: roommates, friends, a trip. HouseMouse is for a couple who share a home. You text it what you paid on WhatsApp, it splits the cost the way you agreed, and it keeps that next to your dinners, grocery list, upkeep and bills.

Choose Splitwise if
- You split costs with several groups: roommates, friends, trips.
- Splitting costs is the only thing you want an app for.
Choose HouseMouse if
- It’s just the two of you, in one home.
- You’d rather text a cost than open an app: “I paid $84 at Costco”.
- You want money in the same place as the rest of the house: bills and renewals with what they cost over a year, dinner, groceries, chores and your home’s history.
- You want your own split, like 60/40, and costs that count right away, with no approving each other’s.
What they have in common
Neither needs your bank login to track who owes whom. HouseMouse never moves money. It keeps a list of shared costs and one balance, and you log it when you pay each other back.
Where it stops
- HouseMouse is for two people sharing a home. It doesn’t split costs with friends or groups.
- It works in Canadian or US dollars, one currency per home.
- It doesn’t send or request payments.
Questions
- Can I import my Splitwise history?
- Not at the moment. Start with the costs from here on, and settle up the old balance in Splitwise first.
- Is HouseMouse free?
- Yes, during the invite-only beta. We haven’t decided on paid plans, and you can delete your account at any time.
